Located in the mountain region of the nation, Wyoming is the 2nd least densely populated state in the nation. About two thirds of the state’s land is adorned with mountain ranges, and a large portion of the state is federally protected and owned. The tourism industry and mineral extraction industry are the most prevalent sectors of the state’s economy. In 2013, a total of 50 diagnostic medical sonographers were employed in the state of Wyoming. Analysts predict total employment to rise to 60 technicians by 2020.

The median annual salary for ultrasound technicians in Wyoming was $67,100 in 2013. Though the future of diagnostic medical sonographers working in Wyoming is positive, it is very slight, with a growth of 19% occurring in total employment between 2010 and 2020.

Certification Requirements in Wyoming

Laramie County Community College is also the only school in Wyoming to offer an ultrasound programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP). Certification is not required for diagnostic medical sonographers working in Wyoming. Many employers, however, will place preference on those technicians who have received their certification. The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) offers an exam that allows aspiring technicians to become certified.

Ultrasound Technician Salary in Wyoming

The median annual salary for diagnostic medical sonographers in 2013 was $67,100 compared to the national median of $66,400. Those whose salary averaged into the top 10% of technicians averaged $89,200, and those who fell into the bottom 10% averaged $51,100 annually. The median hourly salary was $32.25 for ultrasound technicians in Wyoming in 2013.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics anticipates total employment to grow by 19% between 2010 and 2020. This will bring the total number of technicians employed in Wyoming to 60 by 2020. Analysts predict 10 annual job openings as a result of growth and net replacement.
